The Legend of Vox Machina
From the first notes of the D&D Beyond theme song to the new opening credits, every fan of Critical Role has chomped at the bit for more animation. It makes sense. Critical Role is a show run by self-proclaimed “nerdy-ass voice actors” who live and breathe the world of animation.
It was only a matter of time before they figured out how to bring their story to life through the medium of an animated series.
The Legend of Vox Machina, currently up to be funded through Kickstarter, does just that. It picks up somewhere between the Vox Machina: Origins comic series from Darkhorse and the start of the campaign’s life as streamed on Twitch.
The animated special will give fans a chance to see what Vox Machina did before they were heroes. Before they fought dragons. Before they adventured far and wide and became saviors of Tal’Dorei. They’ll be level 7 adventurers, still learning and growing and figuring each other out.
Whose Involved?
Animated series don’t happen in a vacuum. The Critical Role crew have forged a partnership with Titmouse, an Emmy award-winning production company known for productions like Big Mouth and The Venture Bros. They’ll bring our favorite characters to life with their animation skills.
Turning role-play into script is writer Jennifer Muro (
Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, Spider-Man, Justice League: Action). She will help bring the home game to life so that the Critical Role cast can once more lend their voices to Vox Machina’s story.
What Can I Do?
Kickstarter campaigns are all about community. That means you! Whether you want to throw $20 or $2000 to the cause, this series can’t happen unless the fans want it to happen.
You can check out the Kickstarter Page and take a look at the rewards. They range from sweet digital downloads to Trinket plushies, dice, and the red-carpet treatment at the future premiere. There is something for everyone at every level and any supporter is going to walk away happy.
Can’t support right now? That’s fine. This Kickstarter will run until April 18th giving everyone time to figure out finances. The best part is that Kickstarter doesn’t take money until the campaign is over.

Whether you can support this campaign or not, it is time to get excited. Critical Role has grown by leaps and bounds this past year and the Critters are the reason why. Take joy in knowing the only reason our favorite crew of nerdy-ass voice actors is doing this is because of you, because of fans.
This is a love letter to a host of people hungry for good stories. That’s the beauty of Critical Role.

The Legend of Vox Machina Synopsis
The Avengers are a mighty team. The X-men follow a brilliant leader, the Fantastic 4 are a tight family. Our heroes are NONE of those things. They’re seven loners, outcasts — a bunch of sh*thead sellswords and wands-for-hire who, while literally drunk, accidentally save the town’s ruler and are given their first “grown up” mission. A mission that forces them to live together and pits them against dangerous and legendary beasts — eventually transforming them into a band of adventurers called Vox Machina.
