In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel (Woody Harrelson).
After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
As the third of possibly four movies in the Planet of the Apes reboot, it’s been great seeing how Caesar’s character has evolved. While, I was initially quite excited about the third installment, I’m not quite sure with this new trailer.
Bringing in a new cast (other than Caesar and his followers) each film gave them different perspectives that worked better than in the Transformers franchise. Yet, because of the prospect of a fourth film, the trailer gives off the feeling like it’s just a segue into the fourth chapter – where (most likely) the apes have taken over.
Even though I have some doubts, if I’ve learned anything after being impressed by the first three films, I’ll still hold out out for Matt Reeve’s direction to pull through.
War for the Planet of the Apes will be in theaters July 14, 2017.
