In case you were like me and had to go to bed before the trailer premiered last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, here’s the first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming:
In the trailer we get to see a Spider-Man with more of his comic character quips, grappling with being both a teenager and his powers. Meanwhile, no doubt due to Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) appearance in the film, figuring out his place after being tapped by Tony’s team and where he stands with the Sokovia Accords after Captain America: Civil War.
With the ending of the trailer showing us Iron Man and Spider-Man zooming off someplace, maybe they both tackle the film’s baddie, Vulture, played by Michael Keaton (I see Birdman has evolved to Vulture-man). Or will Peter go it alone? I guess we’ll have to find out!
For a while it was touch and go whether or not Spider-Man would make his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Sony has held the rights to the character since the 1980s. Thankfully, Sony and Marvel cut a deal.
After five recent Spider-Man movies and two different actors playing Peter Parker (and the dark time of dancing emo Peter Parker), we may finally get closer to a Spider-Man that better resembles the comic and animated tv show character. While the film’s release date isn’t until July 7, 2017 – it’ll be interesting to see how Tom Holland’s Sony/Marvel Peter Parker is received.
What are your thoughts on Tom Holland’s Spider-Man so far compared to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions?
