Okay, I’m going to be honest with you all up front: I’m not a huge fan of villains. I know, I know. Some of them can be awesome. But I just have a hard time rooting for the bad guy. Luckily Marvel villains are generally more multifaceted than just evil dudes with poorly thought out plans to take over the world. In fact, Marvel villains half the time come off as very sympathetic characters. (Granted, some of them really are just crazy people.)
So, while I’m not usually a huge villain fan, I was excited for this box. Did it meet all my expectations? I guess. I didn’t have that high of expectations in the first place and I was pretty pleased with most of what we got.
(Zombie) Morbius Pop! Bobblehead
This is probably the first disappointing Pop! we’ve gotten in the Marvel Collector Corps. Don’t get me wrong, there are probably plenty of Morbius fans out there who were super stoked to see him. But I personally have no idea who he is and I have no idea why he has a zombie variant Pop! so I wasn’t too impressed.
Like a lot of people I was really, really hoping for a Green Goblin Pop! (Luckily one is coming – it’ll just be a Walgreens exclusive.) The Pop! itself looks great so if you like the character then it’s a total win. From what I’ve seen around the internet zombie Morbius is a slightly rarer variant Pop!, too, so if you got him you got lucky!
Venom Pocket Pop! Keychain
I love the Pocket Pop! keychains. I’m a huge Funko fan and so I love being able to take them along with me everywhere I go. (Plus, they’re just super cute.) I’m actually surprised that Venom is an exclusive because so many people like him. But I’m obviously not complaining. He’s adorable with his little tongue and looks just like the bigger, Walgreens exclusive version.
Loki Dorbz
I was so excited to see this adorable Loki Dorbz in this month’s box! I still wasn’t entirely sold on the Dorbz line as a whole. The exclusive Ultron included in the inaugural box was cute and all but it wasn’t particularly memorable. Loki, on the other hand, is the cutest thing ever. It helps that they’ve updated the packaging and the box design looks great, too. Having looked up some of the other characters they’ve added to the Dorbz line I have to say it’s starting to win me over. They’re no Pops! but they’re still great. And as someone with a cat named Loki this one in particular is pretty great.
Villains T-Shirt
Awesome, awesome, awesome t-shirt this month! I’m a big fan of the Funko style shirts but it was nice to break away from that trend after the last two boxes. The design this time around was good and the shirt itself is so comfortable. I wear it all the time. I don’t even mind that it’s grey – which is usually a problem for me. It’s just such a bland color. Like black, it’s used too frequently. (And the one in the Age of Ultron box was kind of ugly and boring.) But, seriously, this is my favorite t-shirt so far just because it’s so comfy.
Villains Collector Corps Swag
I’m going to include the variants we get each box in this section from here on out unless they turn out to be something just completely mind-blowing. This time around we got Invincible Iron Man #1 Variant and the usual pin and patch. Nothing too fancy – just the usual.
While Zombie Morbius was a bit disappointing everything else in this box was pretty great. I’m so happy to have the Loki Dorbz and I’m really looking forward to swapping out my Hulk keychain for Venom once Hulk starts to look a little worse for wear.
It was a little disappointing, though. I was hoping for a Green Goblin or the Red Skull or some other A-List villain pop as I think most subscribers were. But at least we got some cool stuff. (And the t-shirt was super comfy.)
The next box should be really great, though. I’m holding out a lot of hope anyway. It’s going to be Guardians of the Galaxy themed and the actual box is huge. Lots of potential with that one!
