Release Date: June 17, 2016
Summary: Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory” reunites everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang, Dory, with her friends Nemo and Marlin on a search for answers about her past. What can she remember? Who are her parents? And where did she learn to speak Whale?
Quick thoughts: While I don’t necessarily feel like this is a tale that needs to be told, this is probably the only short term memory “sequel” (see: possible Memento reboot) that needs to be made. The trailer doesn’t have much charm but maybe the audience for Pixar/Disney films are getting younger. Dory’s memory problem obviously is used as a plot point, but we can also see how it could get old real fast – already in this trailer.
Finding Nemo has always been one of my favorites but as we learned with Monsters University, not all Pixar movies need a prequel/sequel. Finding Dory seems more like some Disney/Pixar film needed to meet some quota, massage our nostalgia to bring in the big bucks instead of a brand new imaginative story that most of us love from Pixar films. (Toy Story being a huge exception.)
