“Who are you?”
“I’m no one.”
The international trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens dropped today, even though fans were pretty sure they’d seen the last of the sneak peaks last month. Some of the footage appears to be from the trailer we got here in the United States, but this trailer is cut together differently and, in my opinion, more significantly. It has also solidified my theory that The Force Awakens is going to be to the new trilogy what New Hope was to the original. We’re going to see the story of the ‘becoming’ of our protagonist, Rey, and how she steps into the force much like Luke had to step into it. This is going to be a story about an orphan finding out who she is, and what she’s destined to do.
We also get to see glimpses of Rey’s relationships with those she’ll be traveling with. First, her little droid friend bb8 who appears to be taking up R2D2’s role as it was in New Hope. Then, the origins of her and Finn, crashing together after what was no doubt some sort of conflict or adventure solidifying their friendship. In a way, he’ll be taking up Han’s role. The parallels between this movie and New Hope are endless, and I cannot wait until the movie is finally released and we’re able to see it in all its glory.
Until then, check out the extended trailer below:
