In the new Dardevil season 2 trailer, released at NYCC this past weekend, we get a glimpse at the series’ new characters: Elektra and Punisher. Elodie Yung (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) as Elektra makes a brief appearance in the trailer pulling red cloth to mask her face. How Daredevil’s future love interest will play a role in this season is left to be determined.
Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead), has more screen time in the trailer, giving us a glimpse at the difference between the two characters. While Matt Murdock holds onto some guilt of how he has handled things, Frank Castle aka Punisher has no qualms about taking lives and causing chaos for his brand of justice.
The upcoming season may be going in the direction of Daredevil vs Punisher, but who can really complain? Having Daredevil (and soon Jessica Jones and Luke Cage) on Netflix is a nice contrast to Marvel’s other properties like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (ABC) and the Avengers movies. The ability to go a darker route gives Marvel’s audience the ability to have something on the lighter side or grittier side or both.
Marvel deciding to bring Punisher onto the series makes it clear they understand Daredevil fans want that sort of grit. Sadly, there is no specific release date for season 2 of Daredevil, but I know I’m waiting in anticipation for its premiere sometime during Spring 2016.
