Farewell, Elena! Our Top Elena Gilbert TVD Moments

Alas, the day has arrived. In a few short hours, our girl Elena is riding off into the sunset (or probably dying some horribly tragic death, depending on how much the writers want to watch us suffer.)

It’s been a crazy 6 seasons of The Vampire Diaries, and we’re going to miss Nina Dobrev and Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce and all the other doppelgangers. To celebrate the life and times of the (sometimes) immortal Elena Gilbert, here are my favorite moments over the years.

1. That time Katherine inhabited her body and gave her an awesome new look.

Can we talk about how fabulous Nina Dobrev looks with pink highlights? Because I never stop talking about it. But really though. Elena as played by Katherine was wonderful. Not only did Katherine give her a whole new look, but the ruthless manipulation of Stefan and Elijah were fantastic. Elena took New York by storm, and we saw her happy for the first time in ages.

2. The time she flipped her humanity switch and burned down the house.

Literally.

Chica does not deal with emotional pain well. It was terrible watching Elena lose Jeremy, but it was enjoyable to see Elena not acting the perfect paramour. Nina Dobrev showed a ton of depth playing this character over the years, and she will be missed.

3. The time she saved Matt on the bridge.

Remember when Rebecca threw a fit and decided to run Elena and Matt off the same bridge her parents died on? #NoChill Well, Elena planned ahead and knew she had vampire blood in her system. While she was drowning, she signaled for Stefan to save Matt, knowing that she would turn into a vampire.

4. All the Delena Moments.

But most notably the kiss at the motel.

Elena had been fighting her attraction toward Damon for seasons- and it all led to one perfect kiss. The pair endured a lot of conflict, but this was the culminating moment for me when Delena officially became canon.

5. The time she erased Damon.

Sometimes a girl has to move on. Losing Damon was unfathomable, and Elena chose to erase all her memories of him to cope. It was heartbreaking seeing her visit his makeshift grave and hallucinating his presence. So compulsion was the only way out.
Sure, it was a bit rash, given he came back a few episodes later, but she couldn’t have known that. Elena was always a fighter and she always put her friends first, but she also knew when it was time to quit and take care of herself.

6. The time she became human.

*sniffs* This is it. Elena took The Cure in hopes to live out her mortal life blissfully with Damon. It’s everything she’s ever wanted since she became a vampire, and who are we to deny her that?

Goodbye, Elena.
