As if time travel wasn’t complicated enough, it looks like Sarah Connor’s baby boy has grown up to become a terminator himself in Terminator Genysis.
Here’s the official synopsis:
When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future…
It seems that new T-1000 (G.I. Joe’s Byung-hun Lee) we saw in the first trailer isn’t the big bad of this film. In what seems like a bit of a spoiler, this new trailer reveals John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’s Jason Clarke) to not only be some new kind of terminator/human hybrid, but also out to kill his own mother, Sarah Connor (Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke).
Luckily, the trailer has kept some things secret, like exactly why he wants to kill her, and we get to see some more of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-101 terminator back in action. The old model proves he’s still got some fight left in him, fending off younger, sexier terminators from moving cars and helicopters. There is even a showdown between the old Schwarzenegger and his younger self from the first film.
Directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World), Terminator Genysis, the fifth movie in the franchise that is as unkillable as its namesake, hits theaters this summer on July 1, 2015.
