Marvel has released the first full trailer for its first Netflix series Daredevil, a more grounded and gritty interpretation that will make you forget all about Ben Affleck.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero “Daredevil” in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. Produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios, with executive producers Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus), Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Drew Goddard (Cabin In The Woods), the series also stars Rosario Dawson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson.
The trailer looks much darker than Marvel’s current shows on ABC, both in tone and aesthetics. It will be interesting to see how the bright and comic book-y Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will crossover with Daredevil’s shadier side of the Marvel universe, if they decide to do that (of course they will). Noticeably absent is the trademark red costume. This Matt Murdoch opts for more of a “Year One” type outfit.
“We didn’t want to start him in the [red] suit. We wanted the early days of him figuring out what he was doing and making mistakes and getting the crap beat out of him on a regular basis.” showrunner Steven S. DeKnight told IGN, “His suit, which we call his vigilante outfit, in the beginning – we tried practically everything, design-wise… And also, really going back to that Man Without Fear, I can’t say where his costume ends up, where it goes, but there is definitely an evolution.”
So will we be seeing red by the end of the season? Find out on April 10th when all 13 episodes of Marvel’s Daredevil will be available to stream on Netflix.
