Fans were given their first taste of The Divergent Series: Insurgent through YouTube and Snapchat yesterday. In the brand new teaser trailer, Shailene Woodley, reprising her role as Tris Prior, is seen going to death defying lengths to save her mother (Ashley Judd) from a burning, flying concrete prison. The first poster for the film, released exclusively to fans through the DivergentSeries Snapchat, teases the same scene and features the phrase “defy reality.”
Insurgent is the second film based on Veronica Roth’s bestselling young adult trilogy set in post-apocalyptic Chicago. While the first film received mixed reviews, the novels are critically acclaimed, and Insurgent was voted Favorite Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction in 2012’s Goodreads Choice Awards.
While a quick peek at the YouTube comments reveals an expected concern about the film’s trueness to the book, and an annoying but sadly unsurprising amount of concern about the length of Woodley’s hair, the trailer packs tons of action into one short minute, with the suspenseful (though predictable) promise that “the world will never be the same.” Plus, the already star-studded cast will be joined by the likes of Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer and Hawaii Five-0’s Daniel Dae Kim.
The Divergent Series: Insurgent is set to hit theaters on March 20, 2015. Keep an eye out for more sneak peeks at TheDivergentSeries.com.
