If you haven’t heard yet, another dystopian book is about to become a movie! This time it is Rick Yancey’s The 5th Wave. Now you guys know I am all about books being turned into movies, and this one is no exception. I read this book when it first came out, and while it wasn’t my most favorite book in the genre, it’s pretty good. The book is both a NY Times and USA Today best seller, and has one a fair amount of awards. There’s also a ton of praise for this book. But what does this mean for the upcoming movie? Hopefully that they’ll stick close to the book and not take too many liberties with the screenplay.
So far, we know that The 5th Wave movie will be out on January 29, 2016. The main cast has been set, and is a pretty good list with a few heavy hitters. Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass, Carrie, Hugo) is set to play Cassie Sullivan, the lead female. Leiv Schreiber (Wolverine, Salt) is also on board, as is Maggie Siff (Push), Nick Robinson (Melissa & Joey, Kings of Summer), and Alex Roe (Sniper:Legacy). This cast is well rounded with well known movie actors, and a few tv people. With this cast alone, I’m pretty dang excited to see it all come together! Hopefully these actors, coupled with the great Susanna Grant as the screenplay writer, we’ll see a good book transferred beautifully to screen.
Want to check out more about the movie? They’ve got a website just for that! Granted, there isn’t a lot about the actual movie yet, but there is a ton about the books. If you’ve got the time, pick up The 5th Wave and give it a read. I’ll be checking it out to read again! And be sure to check back here as I’ll keep updating you on the latest on the movies, plus posting my review of the book, and it’s sequel, The Infinite Sea.
