“Panem Today. Panem Tomorrow. Panem Forever.”
That seems to be the new motto of the Capitol since the end of the 74th Hunger Games, but now they’re really trying to grind it into our heads now that Katniss Everdeen has gone off the grid. In the first trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, President Snow (Donald Sutherland) addresses Panem, remind them that there has been nothing but peace since the revolution attempt 75 years ago and that you should remember that instead of screwing everything up.
Well, not in those exact words, but you can equate President Snow’s speech to a more sinister version of Roy’s speech about the ecosystem of the office from The IT Crowd.
If this wasn’t already a creepy kick in the face, you might notice that Peeta is there too. As a piece of propaganda, it’s kind of brilliant because it shows a beloved Hunger Games victor standing with Snow, therefore endorsing his message.
If you’ve read the books though, I bet you’re calling Snow a sick bastard much like I did.
Will we be seeing a rebuttal from District 13? Or a more traditional trailer soon? All I know is is that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 comes out on November 21.
