Limbo
Alright, so you’re dead and those 72 virgins you were promised are actually here in the afterlife with you – in fact, every hedonistic thought your heart desires is here. What’s the catch? You figure it out. Limbo comes out of a short story from /r/WritingPrompts on Reddit (also known as the place my self-esteem goes to die) that is being adapted into a short film. Some fantastic people are involved – Dan Mintz (the voice of Tina on Bob’s Burgers) and H. Jon Benjamin (the voice of Sterling Archer on Archer and Bob on Bob’s Burgers) – and the goal is to make something hilarious and thought-provoking. With that line up, I’d say they’re off to a good start.
Rewards Under $20: For $5, you’ll get a digital download of the film after its festival premiere. For $15, you’ll get both the digital download of the film and a download of the script with notes.
Ends July 1, 2014.
Deviants #1
Deviants is an effort to mash up a superhero origins story with the horror/survival genre of comics. Planned to be a nine issue miniseries, the “Deviants” – genetically enhanced teenagers – escape the research facility housing them for research purposes to explore the friction between characters and ideals, driving the story forward with character development. The two main characters are Shift, a Korean-American boy with the power to take on the properties of any material he touches, and Panacea, an African-American girl with the power to heal wounds and diseases. Consider me intrigued by the character descriptions alone!
Rewards Under $20: For $5, you get a digital copy of the first issue. For $15, you’ll get both the digital copy of the comic and a physical copy mailed to you!
Ends July 2, 2014.
Kitchen Overlord’s Illustrated Geek Cookbook
This Kickstarter is exactly what the name sounds like – an illustrated geek cookbook of all your favorite fandoms from past to present. Planned to have 50 recipes and 120-pages of illustrated geeky goodness, they’ve already passed their goals and plan to include recipes from fandoms such as The Walking Dead, Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek, and more! But one of the best things they did for us, whether you donated or not, was hit a stretch goal that allowed them to release a free Carbs Against Humanity pack for Cards Against Humanity and it is hilarious and you should get it. And if you like food – don’t lie – you should really check out this project and see what they’ve got planned!
Rewards Under $20: For $10, you’ll get a DRM-free copy of the cookbook. If you splurge and spend $25, you’ll get a signed and numbered first edition copy (which really is the best way to impress your friends)!
