It’s been two years since Watch Dogs was announced at E3 2012, and I am so close I can taste it.
Watch Dogs was originally slated to release on November 19th, 2013 as part of the PS4/Xbox One release, but was pushed back by developers to give them more time to perfect the next gen console version. Some have said that the game is worth the wait, but Ubisoft took a huge financial blow after pushing back the hyped up game from its November release. I know I was disappointed, and it was what ultimately decided whether or not I should get the PS4 on launch day or not.
The game went “gold”, as announced by Ubisoft, which means that the game will be coming to us and there will be no more delays. In the same GameRant article, they note that “Ubisoft has also revealed that Watch Dogs has broken not only company-wide sales records, but also industry-wide records for the current year”.
Then there was that little easter egg in Assassin’s Creed 4 which has a lot of people wondering if the two games share the same universe and if this game is actually just a modern day Assassin’s Creed. Without giving away too many spoilers, the two games share a city in common and Aidan’s cause feels suspiciously like an assassin vs templar situation.
Watch Dogs has made May 27th, 2014 its official release date and gamers are all waiting with much anticipation over the fact that this game is finally being released after 5 years of waiting. Players will have the ability to enter into their friends’ games in the open world and hack anything and everything. Ubisoft has created a few more marketing campaigns, from their hacking prank to their multiple trailers being released. They are doing their final push for the game before its release in a little over a week.
