Seriously, I don’t know what DC is doing with their casting. I feel like I should give them the benefit of the doubt; I mean they are a multi-million dollar franchise and they have great comics…but they really dropped the ball on the newest addition to their upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie. What did they do? Well, they cast Jesse Eisennberg as Lex Luthor. *crickets* On one end you have the squirrely, fast-talking, arrogant, and awkward person that invented Facebook (I know Eisenberg didn’t invent it…but he played the guy that did). On the other end you have Lex Luthor – supervillain, billionaire industrialist, brilliant scientist, and Superman’s greatest enemy. I don’t know, but those two just don’t seem to mesh. It’s like sticking two feathers on an elephant and declaring it can fly.
I quote Sam Wildman,
“You know, there’s Marvel’s risky casting and then DC’s. Marvel is like ‘WE CAN TOTALLY SEE THIS PERSON AS THIS CHARACTER… JUST TRUST US’ while DC is like ‘LOL WHAT IS CASTING'”
Lex Luthor is supposed to intimidate you, strike fear in your hearts. He’s the genius among geniuses. The smartest man in the universe. For crying out loud he’s THE enemy of the most strongest man on earth, Superman. I just…DC….can’t. But things might not be quite as bleak as they appear. After all, Twitter and the Internet was outraged over Heath Ledger being cast as The Joker, too, as these quotes Newsarama remind us:
“The Joker is a character that needs an actor with gravity. Not some little twerp who got lucky.”
“Heath? let’s reminisce on the days of A Knight’s Tale and Ten Things I Hate About You. Heath? The Joker? Bad casting. Bad joke.”
Of course, we all remember when we watched The Dark Knight and saw The Joker. It was an absolute phenomenal performance. Bone-chilling. A performance that won Heath Ledger a posthumous Oscar. We might be laughing and joking about it now, but you never know, Jesse Eisenberg just might surprise you…. might being the operative word.

Jesse Eisenberg is going to be Lex Luthor. If that’s the route they’re taking they should just get Shia Lebouf.
