Guts picks up right where Blood left off without missing a single beat. Everything you loved in the first volume is even better in the second. This book reveals the dirty little secrets of the Amazons, brings the Greek gods into a shadier light, and keeps with the over all gritty tone of the first. Wonder Woman is continuing on her path as protector of Zola and her unborn child, with the help of Hermes. This book follows not only their plight, but the double-crossing of all the gods against one another. Strife and Apollo create more havoc than one can imagine and it all leads up to Wonder Woman’s battle against her being married off.

Azzarello, Chiang and Akins are growing to be one of the best trio of artists to breathe new life into the story of Wonder Woman. Azzarello’s story is brought to life by Chiang and Akins’ gritty  drawings and coloring. The over all tone is once again dark, as we learn more about the dark secrets everyone is keeping. The Amazon’s secret brings light on to how they are able to keep an all female population, but keeps the story so dark that you start to realize their true savagery. Hades, again, is a character that is handled beautifully and gives a new side to the creepy Lord of the Underworld.

Final Thoughts:
I’m a fan of this series, if you couldn’t tell. It’s a beautifully written story. It is smart, sarcastically funny, and dirty. It gives us a new, rawer side of Diana that we haven’t had before. In this story, she’s more kick ass than ever before. It’s easy to empathize with her and Zola, as they are given real personalities with accurate reactions to situations. The emotions that are drawn on the page are so great that even without words, you’d understand what they were feeling. If you weren’t a Wonder Woman fan before, this reboot will make you a fan. Seriously. Go pick up Blood, and grab Guts while you’re there. You won’t regret it.
