Well, you’ve seen President Snow’s propaganda, but it’s time to get the other side of the story. Today, the Mockingjay has returned!

Or rather, the actual teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 has dropped.

While Sam, Therese, and Kylee were at San Diego Comic Con, I went to my local Best Buy to have my own emotional and exclusive experience while watching the trailer on a Samsung Tab S. I had to reign it in there, but they are still there a few days later.

The trailer opens with Plutarch Heavansbee talking about Katniss to President Coin. Really, I wasn’t expecting to feel the emotional stab in the face in the first seconds of the trailer with the use of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, but there was really no other way this trailer could play out. The viewer needs to understand that Katniss’s position as the face of the rebellion wasn’t really her choice to make, but she made it the moment she nearly ate the Nightlock.

In fact, the trailer isn’t focused on Katniss so much as it is everything that’s happening around her. The refugees of District 8, the revolution spawning across Panem, President Snow’s attempt to squelch it, and Natalie Dormer’s everything as Cressida.

Okay, that last one is just what I was focused on. Can you blame me?

Still, one trailer in and it’s already very telling for how Katniss Everdeen’s story evolves in the third installment. It wasn’t exactly the choice she intended to make, but it is one she lives with and is willing to fight for, even if it’s going to break her further.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 releases on November 21, 2014 in the US, which will also be the day I leave the movie theater screaming and crying from the emotional damage this movie will inevitably do to me.
